In an Ideal World

In an Ideal World is a response to the invasive presence of contemporary visual culture and underlying pressures to conform to unobtainable ideals.

Sampling advertising, packaging, free newspapers and generic internet images, I mix and decontextualise disparate elements to form new meanings in their reconfigurations. Production methods, using unfashioned materials crudely and playfully put together, contribute to the critique of the content, addressing communication, feminism and consumer culture.

The work evokes an environment that give a sense of our world that is not our world and also explores my interest in depiction, illusion and dimensionality - how different forms of two and three-dimensional representation can be combined in a work to evoke the pictorial.
