Following my previous tape installations, I was commissioned to make a work for the Kings Cross Archive Project, as a response to the new Central St Martin's building at Kings Cross. I was given the college’s Window Gallery as the site for the work.
This proved to be a challenging site as the previous installations, all sited in open space, had an immersive quality; whereas this time the work was to be set in an enclosed space behind glass. To negotiate this challenge, I installed a set of mirrors at the back of the space so that viewers could see their own reflections caged behind the tape grid, and thus, have a sense of being immersed in the work. The mirrors were cut to the same dimensions as a doorway in the back of the space, and made from acrylic, giving slightly distorted reflections.
